I started LCHF in March 2026. This is a check-in at the two-month mark, before the July CT results come in.
No dramatic conclusions yet. Just an honest record of where things stand.
What Changed
Weight
I lost 4kg in the first month. Not the goal — but it happened. More specifically, the excess fat around my belly and thighs reduced noticeably. Clothes that used to be too tight are now loose. It feels like two clothing sizes down.
One ironic side effect: as the belly fat reduced, a lump on my abdomen became more visible than before.
I'm not sure whether to laugh or cry about that one.
Mood
This one I didn't expect.
The first round of chemotherapy left me infertile. I'm still getting my period, but my hormone levels are close to menopausal range — which means I'd been dealing with something like early menopause for a while. Mood swings that had nothing to do with how I actually felt. Irritability showing up uninvited.
When I told people I was switching to a meat-heavy diet, someone joked: "Won't eating only meat make you aggressive?"
One month later, I was calmer than I'd been in a long time. Less reactive. The mood swings quieted down noticeably.
To be honest — this is closer to my actual personality. Somewhere in the middle of treatment and hormone changes, that version of me got harder to find.
I can't say for certain why this happened. Whether it's the diet, the reduction in carbohydrates, something else entirely — I don't know. I'm not making a scientific claim.
But I noticed it. And it matters.
The Blood Work
The June blood draw came back with mostly stable results — CBC, albumin, CRP, liver and kidney function all within normal range or close to it. (Full breakdown in my blood tests post [here])
The one number that's been above range and climbing: LDH. Currently at 362, up from 317 in April. My doctor's threshold for real concern is above 500, so we're watching it but not alarmed.
A CT scan is scheduled for July. That will give a clearer picture of what's actually happening structurally.
Total cholesterol also came in elevated at 289. This can happen during weight loss on LCHF as fat is mobilized from tissue. A detailed lipid panel is planned for July.
What I Still Don't Know
Here's the honest part.
I came into this thinking: cut off the fuel supply, slow the cancer down. The Warburg Effect as my working theory. (More on that [here])
But follicular lymphoma has a characteristic called waxing and waning — tumors can shrink or disappear without any intervention, then return. That means any positive change I observe can't be easily attributed to the diet. The alternative explanation always exists.
The lump on my side that disappeared around week six? Could be the diet. Could be waning. Could be both. Could be neither.
I can't prove it either way. What I can do is keep going, keep tracking, and keep showing up for the next test.
Why I'm Still Doing This
Not because I think diet cures cancer. I've been clear about that from the start.
Because my immune system needs to be able to do its job. And the environment I give it — through food, movement, sleep — matters for that, even if I can't measure exactly how much.
"It's not that diet kills cancer cells directly. It's that I want to maintain an environment where my immune system can work."
That's still where I stand.
July CT results will be the next real data point. I'll write about it when I have something worth saying.
